[Archive] LITERAL ADDICTION's Review of Busted

Shiloh Walker

They always say to tell a little about yourself! I was born in Kentucky and have been reading avidly since I was six. Writing became more my focus in middle school-I had a very boring teacher and voices in my head. There was also a book that didn’t end the way I wanted it to end-don’t ask me the book, because I don’t remember. I just remember I started writing. I never stopped.

About me now… hmm… I’ve been married since I was 19 to my high school sweetheart and we live in the mid-west. I started writing full time in 2004, which lets me write during the day and still devote more time to my family- three adorable children who are growing way too fast and my husband who doesn’t see enough of me.

I like to read. There’s a shocker!

This list will vary, a lot, but personal faves include Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, Stacia Kane and a new recently discovered favorite in Mark Greaney. My all time favorite is SL Viehl. She writes sci fi and romance, but my favorite of hers is the sci fi series Star Doc. If you haven’t read them, I think you’re missing out.

Something cool…

When I was in nursing school, a friend of mine came up to me one day and told me she’d had a dream that she was in a bookstore one day and saw a book with my name on it. This was before I told anybody that I loved to write. I think that was when I decided I was very serious about writing.

From the national bestselling author of Wrecked and Razed comes an emotionally charged story of undeniable passion and life-affirming love…

Like his brothers Zach and Zane, Trey Barnes thought he had found the love of his life. But fate had other plans. A widower who’s had to raise his five-year-old son on his own, Trey has not allowed himself to be with another woman. Until he meets Ressa Bliss at—of all places—a children’s library program. The beautiful librarian is wonderful with his son, Clay, but every time Trey even considers asking her out, he is tortured by guilt.

Fate is indeed fickle. When the two meet again at a conference, this time the attraction is too powerful to resist. But is their connection and passion strong enough to survive Trey’s deep inner torment?

This is the third book in Ms Walker's Barnes Brothers series featuring these passionate siblings and if you are in the mood for a contemporary tale that will tug at your heartstrings then this book will certainly fit the bill.

Yes it's part of a series, but I found it easy to follow and works very well as a standalone although I confess to being intrigued by the remaining brothers . Now, as to the story, it focuses on Trey Barnes, a reclusive author who under tragic circumstances lost his wife leaving him to raise their son alone. Now, hsi son Clayton, is almost ready to start school and fate steps in and puts the curvy librarian Ressa in Trey's path. From the moment he meets Ressa, everything that Trey thought dead wakes up and begs for his attention! Oh yes, there's just something about Ressa that is impossible for Trey to ignore, but Trey's past keeps preventing him from asking her out. Crippled by doubts and guilt Trey watches the woman he burns for just walk away. Ressa is not just a quiet unassuming librarian. No, she's far more than that. Ressa is a woman with a past that she just can't shake off. Having made a new life for herself the only thing that's missing is a man to share it with, but boy is life cruel as a gorgeous hunk of manhood keeps getting dangled in front of her! Ressa knows he's not for her and gets back to what's really important in her life. A chance encounter, a misunderstanding and one night of hot sex and what do you know? Fate is indeed having fun with these two lonely people!

This is a story that kept me guessing as although we get snippets of what's to come a lot of this book and its plot revolves around the past. The relationship that forms between Ressa and Trey is slow to develop as they both hold back. I thought that Trey was more willing to embrace the possibility of something permanent far sooner than Ressa, but she's a woman with secrets and yes her guilt and fear impinges on her present . Trey's traumatic experiences are about to collide with the the sadness that Ressa tries to cope with and it wasn't until near the end of the story that Ms Walker gave us the answers we needed.

This couple is so right together and frankly can hardly keep their hands off each other! Perfectly matched in so many ways and capable of helping each other heal.

This was an enjoyable read with characters to care about. Cuteness abounds with the children featured in this story, but for me it was the mystery hidden within the pages that kept me reading. A passionate story about moving on. I loved the family dynamics as yes, we do get to meet two more gorgeous Barnes brothers. I can't wait to see how Trey's twin Travis gets his happy ending.

If you enjoy contemporary romance with steam and a solid storyline than this book is for you!
