[Archive] LITERAL ADDICTION's Review of Succubus Revealed

Richelle Mead  is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of urban fantasy books for both adults and teens.  Originally from Michigan, Richelle now lives in Seattle, Washington where she works on her three series full-time. Before becoming a writer, she considered a few different career paths. She received a liberal arts degree from the University of Michigan, an MA in Comparative Religion from Western Michigan University, and a Master in Teaching (Middle & High School English) degree from the University of Washington. In the end, she decided writing was the way for her but believes all of her education prepared her for it.
A life-long reader, Richelle has always had a particular fascination with mythology and folklore. When not writing,, she enjoys bad reality TV, traveling, trying interesting cocktails, and shopping for dresses. Lots of dresses. She is a self-professed coffee addict, fights a constant (and losing) battle with procrastination, and has a passion for all things wacky and humorous.
Her adult series are published by Kensington Books.  The Georgina Kincaid Series (Succubus Blues, Succubus on Top, Succubus Dreams, and Succubus Heat) tell the humorous and heart-breaking story of a reluctant succubus who can't touch the man she loves without dire side effects. On top of that, she must deal with Hell's middle management team and the many supernatural threats that come her way.

Succubus Revealed,  Book #6 of the Georgina Kincaid series
Author:  Richelle Mead

Synopsis:  Georgina Kincaid has had an eternity to figure out the opposite sex, but sometimes they still surprise her. Take Seth Mortensen. The man has risked his soul to become Georgina's boyfriend. Still, with Lucifer for a boss, Georgina can't just hang up her killer heels and settle down to domestic bliss. In fact, she's being forced to transfer operations...to Las Vegas.

The City of Sin is a dream gig for a succubus, but Georgina's allies are suspicious. Why are the powers-that-be so eager to get her away from Seattle—-and from Seth? Georgina is one of Hell's most valuable assets, but if there's any way out of the succubus business she plans to take it--no matter how much roadkill she leaves behind. She just hopes the casualties won’t include the one man she’s risking everything for...
Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha – Michelle L Olson]:

I have been a fan of the Georgina Kincaid series since the day I randomly picked up a copy of Succubus Blues and wasn’t able to put it down until I had devoured the last sentence of the last available book; Succubus Shadows, Book #5.  The series has everything I look for in a good Urban Fantasy – Action, wit, great dialogue, strategically placed steamy (and very REAL)  romance, and best of all…intrigue.  While it’s hard for me to believe the series is done, Richelle couldn’t have closed it out better than she did with Succubus Revealed.

In this installment, we have seasoned characters who have gone through hell (pun intended) to be where they are currently – together and happy.  While that is enough, there are still things – real-life things – that need to be dealt with outside of their shiny happiness, and during their true living of life in this book, yet another curveball is sent their way (not shocking for Georgina).

At first it looks like there could be a way to overcome the hurdle that’s put in their path, until it’s revealed that there is WAY more to the sudden job transfer notice than meets the eye; it looks to be  an honest to goodness conspiracy, and when you work for Hell, you’re not paranoid if they really ARE out to get you!

With the help of her faithful friend and conspiracy theorist Roman, Georgina begins to unpeel the layers of the mystery onion, to get to the heart of the matter.  In doing so, the biggest bombshell of the series yet is dropped, and I found myself in bed at 1:30 a.m. exclaiming expletives out loud and waking up my other ½ -- it was just  that shocking, and that GOOD!.  J

The downward slide  of the novel’s crescendo was filled with ‘what-ifs’, literal soul gambling, and putting everything on the line for love even when Georgina wasn’t sure she’d have a love to go back to.  It was heart-pumping, breath-holding Urban Fantasy at its best, and Richelle Mead delivered like nobody’s business!

There was a definite ‘lesson’ in this book, and I think it can be summed up with an amazing  quote from the end of the book:  “How we love others is affected by how we love ourselves, and for the first time in a long time, I was whole.  I knew who I was and in turn was able to appreciate just how much I loved him”.  ~Georgina Kincaid. Succubus Revealed by: Richelle Mead.

I could gush forever, but I’ll get straight to the rating.  LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Succubus Revealed 5 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone – Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance readers far and wide.  If you’re looking for a series that has a mix of supernatural creatures and plenty of Hell driven drama but that  is still very ‘real’ and relatable, then the Georgina Kincaid series is definitely for you.

This is a series that you have to read in order though in my opinion.  There are just so many layers and things that make the characters who they are that happen book to book, that picking up a book in the middle of the series would be unfair to you as a reader.  So… if you haven’t read any of Georgina yet, go get Succubus Blues and start the series now!  If you already caught up and are just waiting to read Succubus Revealed to wrap the series up for yourself, don’t wait any longer; move it to the top of your TBR list immediately!  You won’t be disappointed, I promise.
