[Archive] LITERAL ADDICTION's Review of Fire Kissed

Erin Kellison stories have always been a central part of Erin's life. She attempted her first book in the 6th grade, a dark fantasy adventure, and still has those early hand-written chapters. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English Language and Literature, and went on for a masters in Cultural Anthropology, focusing on oral storytelling. When she had children, nothing scared her anymore, so her focus shifted to writing fiction. She lives in Arizona with her two beloved daughters and husband, and she will have a dog (breed undetermined) when her youngest turns five.

Fire Kissed, Book #1 of the Shadow Kissed series (book #4 of the Shadow world)
Author:  Erin Kellison

Synopsis:
Fae Fire
It is Kaye Brand's power to wield. But outcast from her kind, she's been selling herself to the highest bidder - money for her survival in exchange for a magic glimpse into the flames of the future.

Angel Ice
One of the angelic Order, Jack Bastian has no use for a female like Kaye, as provocative and unexpected as her blazing beauty. Yet he has no choice but to hire her to uncover the secrets of his sworn enemy and her former fiance, Ferrol Grey.

Magekind
War is inevitable between the defenders of the Order and the mage Houses who threaten to engulf the world in Shadow. For Jack, mage-born Kaye is off limits, no matter how hot the impossible attraction between them. But in the coming darkness, beset by danger and desire, everything is about to change...

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:

This is still one of my very favorite Urban Fantasy series, even if this is a spin-off - Book #4 in the Shadow world, book #1 of the Shadowkissed series.

While I liked the books of the 'original' series a bit better, this was still dark, beautifully written, and intriguing from beginning to end. I stand by my initial comments after completing Shadow Bound (book #1 of the Shadow series) - Erin writes with poetic prose that is utterly captivating...

Our characters:  Kaye Brand is a mage with some trauma in her background.  Jack Bastian is an angel with a bit of an attitude.  While angels and shadows don't generally mix, Jack's current assignment pairs him up with Kaye in an attempt to gather some information for the Order and rid the world of the growing Wraith problem. In doing so, they are forced to work together - the smoldering attraction is an interesting side effect. :)

While I didn't jump up and down with love for Jack and Kaye like I did for the other pairs in the series, I still absolutely adore this world that Erin has built and I eagerly immerse myself in it every chance I get. I did love the twists that the story took (you're just going to have to read it to find out what I'm talking about!) and I thoroughly enjoyed the way that Erin ended the book as a segue to the coming installments and a HEA for Jack and Kaye.

I was also pleased to have a reappearance of Kahn and the other members of Segue. I had missed them so much and was so glad to be able to 'say hi' again. :)

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Fire Kissed 4 Skulls. I can't wait for the next novel from Erin!
