[Archive] LITERAL ADDICTION's Review of Rapture's Edge

J.T Geissinger A life-long lover of reading and a self-professed “book addict,” J.T. Geissinger didn’t realize her dream of writing a novel until a milestone birthday forced her to take stock of her goals in life. Always believing the right time to commit to putting pen to paper would magically announce itself, it took waking up one cold January morning with a shiny new zero as the second number in her age to kick start her determination.

Starting on that very day, she wrote what would become Shadow’s Edge in a little over four months and submitted it to several literary agents. Nothing happened. Thinking that was the end of that but by no means willing to give up on her dreams of being published, she began work on a second manuscript.

Then, during a trip to Italy in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary and the honeymoon she and her husband never took, she received an email that would change her life. It was from an agent, Marlene Stringer of Stringer Literary, and it contained the three words every aspiring author longs to hear: “I loved it.”

Marlene sold the manuscript, initially titled The Skinwalker’s Daughter, to Montlake Romance who published it six months later. Hitting the #1 Amazon bestseller lists for Fantasy Romance in both the US and the UK within weeks of publication, Shadow’s Edge is the culmination of the refusal to give up (some would say grow up) with the staunch belief that all good things come to those who wait…and sometimes to those who wait longest.

Rapture's Edge - NIGHT PROWLER series Book #3
by J.T Geissinger

Synopsis:
SECRETS…In the hidden world that exists beside our own, a mirror world of ancient magic and elegant deceptions, a world of people who are so much more than they first appear, a war is brewing. Most of these Gifted people—the Ikati, a savage, sensual race of lethal predators—are content to hide behind human smiles, disguising their splendor in order to survive. But others are discontent. And they will hide no longer.

BETRAYALS…Eliana lives for two things only: vengeance on the man who killed her father and seeing her father’s dream of living in the open with humans come to pass. But that dream is far too dangerous for The Hunt, a group of elite Ikati assassins with one objective: eliminate her before she can expose their secrets to the world.

SEDUCTION…Demetrius is haunted by the memory of the woman he once loved. He will risk everything to save her from the killers on her tail…and convince her, before the ancient walls between two worlds crumble, that only together can they defeat their real enemy, a brilliant, cunning traitor far more deadly than either of them can guess.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:

After adoring the first two books of this series, I had Rapture's Edge on Kindle Pre-Order and started it the day after release...

Starting 3 years after the ending of Edge of Oblivion, Book #2, Rapture's Edge focuses on 2 characters that I was absolutely in love with in the 2nd installment - Demetrius (D), a former enforcer for the King, and Eliana, the displaced princess of the European Ikati tribe.

At the end of Edge of Oblivion there were some major events that led to a heartbreaking misunderstanding and forced Demetrius and Eliana apart. In Rapture's Edge, Eliana is in hiding with her people - primarily her sadistic & presumed useless brother and his deceitful and conniving right hand man - and she's the primary bread winner for the colony by becoming an infamous cat burglar and fighting in underground fightclubs. Unfortunately, her cover gets blown and the human organization that her people are trying to hide from, as well as an Assassin sub-division of the Ikati, pick up her trail. Demetrius does as well...

After searching for Eliana for 3 years, Demetrius doesn't wait a second to go after her once he finds out where she is despite the protests of his brothers. He's never stopped loving her and is determined to protect her from whatever comes her way. He also knows he'll need to do some explaining given the abruptness of their parting and the events preceding it.

Rapture's Edge is an emotional roller-coaster. You want to slap Eliana (but only because you know things she doesn't), you ache for Demetrius and his plight of being caught between a rock and a hard place, you yearn for the two to get together - FINALLY! - and you loathe everyone that tries to keep them apart.

Outside of the incredible heart of the story, there was plenty of action, some amazing romance, and like Edge of Oblivion, an ending that was chock full of mystery & surprise and will make you want the next book immediately without feeling like you were left totally hanging.

I give Rapture's Edge 4 1/2 Skulls and am definitely looking forward to the next installment of the NIGHT PROWLER series!
