I'm a fan of Alexis Morgan for sure, but this series is absolutely incredible, and Her Knight's Quest was truly special - it's full of fabulous characters, a continually engaging storyline, an enchanting world, and I absolutely loved it!

I'm not a historical romance reader. Heck, I just read my first non-paranormal romance the other day and I read A LOT! I'm an urban fantasy/paranormal romance/fantasy/horror-thriller girl, and yet, I was completely engaged by this book and would have been very sad if it didn't have the historical aspects that it did. Alexis paints a truly beautiful tapestry and weaves the 2 genres together wonderfully thus creating what I hope is a new recognized sub-genre.

This second installment centers around Duncan, the scholar/warrior of the Damned. The Damned are warriors who act as avatars to their Goddess, and come to the aid of those in need when summoned. The rest of the time they slumber under the river. Their full story is revealed in the 1st book of the series, My Lady Mage, though you can get a good idea from the intro to Her Knight's Quest and the tidbits that are revealed throughout, therefore making the book work just fine as a stand-alone. 

Our heroine, Lavinia, is an earth witch with a heady secret, hiding from her past by running an abbey and guarding a precious library.

Together they make an incredibly powerful couple. Duncan has magick in his blood but his Goddess and the rest of the Damned do not trust magick, and Lavinia has always been independent and looked out for herself and those she cares about so it's hard for her to give in and let Duncan care for her. 

Aside from the incredible story, the utterly loathable villain and his cronies, and the powerful romance that blooms between Duncan and Lavinia, we get to see how things are going with Captain Gideon and his lady love Merewen (the power couple from book #1), and are brought into the budding interests between Murdoch and Lady Alina (who I'm assuming will be the leading couple in book #3, but I could be wrong), so there are plenty of side stories to go around and make the entire book robust and enjoyable.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Her Knight's Quest 5 Skulls and would recommend it and the entire WARRIORS OF THE MIST series to all Paranormal Romance and Historical Romance fans. It's beautiful and I can't wait for the next book!

Death, Doom & Detention, book #2 of Darynda Jones's DARKLIGHT series is a great continuation installment with lots of great moments, tons of character growth for the leading characters' supporting cast, a new evil villain, and a wonderfully developing storyline. I didn't love it as much as the first book, but it was still a very enjoyable read.

Darynda does an amazing job of both making the book work well as a stand-alone, yet allow many of the missing pieces from book #1 to be filled in for those of us that read and enjoyed it.

To be honest, I think the reason I didn't love this release as much as the debut was the lack of Jared, and therefore the lack of the continuation of Jared and Lorelei's love story. The necessity of Jared's removal for much of the main story allowed for a lot more Brooke and Cameron though, and THAT I thoroughly enjoyed! It solidified one of the things that I loved most about Darynda's YA... the lack of a love triangle for the leading characters! There is somewhat of a love triangle amongst the supporting cast, but it's subtle, and even that is broken up by the introduction of another interest.

Like all of Darynda's books, DD&D is chock full of mystery, and while this release wasn't as action packed as I generally expect from Darynda, it was very intense towards the end and ended with a crazy cliffhanger that had me wishing for Death and the Girl He Loves immediately.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Death, Doom and Detention 4 Skulls and would suggest that those who started the series definitely read it! And while I would still suggest it for those looking for a good stand-alone, my personal opinion is that the series is better served by enjoying the books in order.

Eternal Demon is another incredible installment to a series I will forever be grateful I discovered.

Fans of the MARK OF THE VAMPIRE series know that as the series has progressed, the world has been expanding along with the growth of the cast. Eternal Demon adds yet another realm to the incredible world Laura Wright has created for her readers, and with the introduction of this realm and new cast members, Laura embraced the darker side of her imagination and I absolutely loved it!!

Our hero, Erion - a vampire Mutore hybrid - is on a mission to rescue a child kidnapped by the villain of our series, Cruen.

Our heroine, Hellen, is one of the Devil's daughters. She has been betrothed to Cruen in order to form an alliance between the vampires and demons, though there are more nefarious purposes in play that Hellen is unaware of.

In order to draw Cruen out, Erion kidnaps Hellen and there is an instant connection, even though neither quite understand it at first. They have a ton of things in common, and yet it's more than that. As the two end up working together to save Ladd, their connection grows even stronger.

Laura created a perfect match for Erion in Hellen. They bring out the best in each other, help each other forgive the things they can't get past on their own, and remind one another that they're special and worth loving. They also come alive on the page and have fantastic dialogue. As I mentioned earlier, Eternal Demon is quite a bit darker than the previous books of the series, and in compliment, the dialogue is a bit darker, and the humor more dry as well. it worked perfectly with Erion and Hellen, and made reading their transition from lust to love utterly entertaining.

I want to tell you SO much more about the plot of this amazing book but I can't without spoilers, so I'll simply tell you that in my honest opinion, this was a beautifully written and incredible addition to the MARK OF THE VAMPIRE series full of intrigue, action, danger, and romance. I love the additions to the cast, the expansion of the world to the Hell realm, and the darkness that Laura is tapping into in order to mesh it all together.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Eternal Demon 5 Skulls and definitely recommends it. I do, however, suggest that you read the previous books of the series - including the eNovellas - first, to get the most enjoyment out of the book. Eternal Beauty (the eNovella right before Eternal Demon) is especially needed to understand the Epilogue of Eternal Demon, which is the draw dropping segue into book #6 of the series. I cannot wait!

As the series has been subtly doing, with the growth of the cast, the world has been expanding as well, and this novella takes a journey into yet another new corner of the wonderful MARK OF THE VAMPIRE world.

Eternal Beauty gives us a wonderful peek into the dark and revenge-bent mind of Syn, and some more in depth knowledge of where Petra has been all of these years.

I'm very excited to read more about Syn and Petra and see how things play out with their insinuation into the rest of the Roman/Impure/Mutore society. This couple is sexy as sin (forgive the pun) and this is a story that cannot be missed for all MOTV fans!!

I unexpectedly received the first book of this series (The Thirteenth Sacrifice) from the Publisher back before it was released in 2012. After reading (and loving!) it, I immediately reached out to Penguin to see if I could possibly do a promotional Event for book 2 as soon as the release date was announced. In true 'happy dance' fashion, I was told that a copy was already on its way...

As soon as the book arrived in the mail I settled in. Later that night, I wrote this on GoodReads: "O.M.G! 5 Skulls is not enough for this intensely insane thrill ride! Book #1 was amazing, but this installment was so gripping I couldn't put it down & stayed up most of the night reading. I cannot wait for Circle of Blood!"

The Last Grave starts a short time in the future following the Events of The Thirteenth Sacrifice, wherein Samantha has moved to California to start fresh following the catastrophic battle between herself and her old coven back in her old hometown that basically left her the last witch standing. She's once again attempting to leave her old life behind and live the life she has earned as a homicide detective, instead of the life she was born into as a dark witch. Unfortunately, the new murder that she and her partner are investigating has an undeniable magickal signature, and Samantha quickly learns that her attempt at a 'normal' life just isn't going to happen. At least not yet.

There is just SO much that happens in this book, and so many twists and turns that this review is incredibly difficult to write; especially given that I don't write spoilery reviews...

I can tell you this much: I lost count at how many times I changed my mind regarding what I thought was going on, & every time I had another "huh?" moment, Debbie would introduce one more action-packed sequence and have me shaking my head with wonder. There were twists, turns and surprises around every corner, & it was jam packed with action. Book #1 was quite dark, but The Last Grave was even darker (something I THOROUGHLY enjoy in my books), and the storyline was incredibly unique and undoubtedly mysterious & intriguing.

I personally loved the book and would recommend it to anyone!! If you've read some of the other pre-release reviews out there are are confused at the discrepancy in ratings, here are my 2 cents - While I'm sure Debbie intended The Last Grave to be a stand-alone novel, it would be much better enjoyed and understood by readers who have read Book #1. In addition, this isn't a quick and lighthearted read. It's dark, it's deep, and I would highly suggest that if you'd like to take the plunge (and I would recommend that you do), that you do it when you have time to utterly devote to a book without outside distractions or too much on your mind. The storyline weaved throughout The Last Grave requires a decent amount of thought to follow along with and navigate all of the twists, and in my opinion, would be much better received as an uninterrupted read.

With all of that said, LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Last Grave 5 Skulls and is incredibly excited for book #3.

It's finally here, Mercy Thompson is back and better than ever.

I have to admit I was just a tad bit nervous to start this book. I had previously read an excerpt Briggs had posted and it had me scared for Adam and his wolves. But temptation's name is "books", and before I knew it, I was was turning to page one and then finishing the book immediately thereafter. My first words upon completion were "Holly fires, Batman. She did it again."

Briggs brings us back to the Tri-Cities, with Mercy all better after her last adventure during her honeymoon with her sexy Alpha husband Adam. In this installment, our wonderful author queen takes us back and then delves into the issues that had began to arise in Mercy's surrounding world - and if you hadn't noticed, she pieces her other series in so that you understand and follow along evenly with her.

Briggs weaves an interesting story around what has happened with the fae, the government, and the humans Mercy interacts with. She craftily expands and blends a melting pot of emotions, back stories, and 'oh crap batman, did that just happen?' together to produce an (in my opinion) award winning novel for her readers.

Action has been a standing theme of all Briggs books, but with this one, she slows it down and gives us a deeper, more 'thought than deed' Mercy, who still has no issues kicking butt and taking names for her husband and Pack. Mercy has to think her way out of almost every situation, and enlist the help of friends and allies — some more grudgingly than others. But the action is there regardless, because hello, you can't think your way out of everything, sometimes you are forced to fight!

The Pack and Adam are in serious danger and Mercy has to figure out a way to not only help them, but get to the bottom of what is really going on. Emotions run high and just when you think things can't get better, a very "special" something pokes his head in to give his two cents. But alas , just because it's better, doesn't mean things are fixed. No, there are always twists, bumps and some scrape a longs to keep you twitching on the edge of your seat.

Frost Burned is packed to the brim with surprises, humor and emotional tear jerking moments. There are good guys, bad guys, and the really bad guys. There are "Oh My God, noooooooo" moments and "Yeah, that's right take them down", moments. Because hey.... That's what you get when you have a pissed off Alpha, loose government loyalties and a feud that spreads to neighboring parties and causes this whole messed up situation.

I happily enjoyed this installment and cannot wait for the seventh book to be announced, soon I hope (fingers crossed).

This series grabbed me from book #1, but this was, without a doubt, my favorite installment of the saga thus far!

Immediately upon finishing the book all I could do was shake my head and say "Sheer brilliance; Heather Killough-Walden does it again!"

Let me start by simply saying that Heather is a true artist! She paints a vivid fantasy landscape with words, intertwines it with reality, and delivers it with heart and poetic prose. Her worlds are incredibly thought out and unique, her characters robust and engaging, and her story arcs full of mystery, intrigue, romance, and emotion. Unlike some other authors where I find I don't even think about them while reading the story, it's hard to ignore the sheer amount of 'self' that Heather puts into her writing and her incredible tales, and it just makes me - as a reader - feel even more privileged to read her work.

O.K, on to the tale at hand (though if you follow my reviews, you know I don't do spoilers!)...

Our hero (the incredibly powerful Warlock King) and heroine (an Akyri fighting against her base nature of having to live off of the power of Warlocks) met very briefly earlier in the series via simple yet electrifying eye contact across a crowded street. It was obvious, even in that split second, that there would be something special there. Chloe was dealing with her own personal issues, however, and Jason was helping the other 12 Kings in their fight against those that sought to destroy them, so it was also evident that fate would not be satisfied immediately.

Throughout their action/mystery/romance/tension-filled journey towards one another in The Warlock King, we learn that there is way more to Chloe AND Jason than meets the eye and/or that we were made privy to earlier in the series, and all of that coupled with the continuing story arc of the series itself made for some pretty amazing reading.

This is an important book of the series. It wasn't completely and solely about Jason and Chloe. We got glimpses into the continuing storylines of our hero and heroine (the Vampire King and Queen) from book #1, the Phantom King and Queen from book #2, as well as introductions to several of the other Kings. Heather also gave us additional information regarding our villains (complete with some pretty heady surprises!) and a slight sneak peek into what we might expect in the fight to come (though with Heather, you always get more than you think!). :)

I know that is incredibly vague and that you are all probably groaning right now in frustration, but I don't know how else to gush without giving things away.

To sum up... LITERAL ADDICTION gives The Warlock King a VERY well deserved 5 Skulls and would recommend it to everyone! And while the book stands well on its own, I would strongly urge you to read the entire series in order to get the most out of it, and simply because every book so far has been absolutely incredible!
